Spokz People are experts in providing therapeutic support to adults born with impairments and those with acquired impairments through accident or injury, pain, brain injury, health conditions and life-limiting illnesses. We also support family members and healthcare professionals.

We have almost a decade of experience working with organisations and partners, helping them to provide holistic support that improves the lives of their clients and service users.

We work with a range of organisations operating in the health and social care sectors on an outsourced and consultancy basis to help them expand the range of services they can offer, allowing them to fulfil a wider range of requirements to NHS and Local Authority commissioners and their service users.

Our therapists work alongside your in-house and commissioned providers as part of a multi-disciplinary team. We can provide clinical supervision and training to your existing therapeutic teams about how to provide effective therapeutic interventions for people with physical disabilities.

Our goal is to bring our unique expertise and to integrate seamlessly into your organisation, providing our bespoke models of therapeutic support to the disabled clients that you work with on a day-to-day basis and their families. Keep reading for more information about our services.

Our Services

At Spokz People, we support organisations working with disabled people by providing a range of solutions that help them to develop bespoke services and highly trained staff, which means they are better able to meet their clients needs.

All of our therapists have some personal experience of disability, they understand what it is like to live with a disability day-to-day. As such we are able to offer the following services to organisations and partners that wish to commission us to work with their staff teams and clients:

  • Trauma and pain support using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), a NICE approved technique.

  • Training for in-house teams and carers/personal assistants around providing therapeutic/emotional support to disabled clients

  • Clinical supervision for in-house counsellors and therapists working with disabled clients.

  • Transition services:  from children’s services into adult services, or from care home or hospital to home. Many clients struggle with this transition.

  • Consultancy on improving wellbeing through a holistic approach including diet, physio, massage and exercise, all can encourage healing.

  • Sex and relationship support for families and healthcare professionals, advice on aids and adaptions. Due to uncertainty and embarrassment, this is an often-neglected area for healthcare professionals. Yet time and again, clients say it is something they want included in their care plans. We can provide support, training and supervision for staff on how to do this whilst considering everyone’s needs and requirements.

  • Support for partners, families and health professionals.

  • Information, advice and education about local and national resources and support.

We work in all kinds of ways to suit your organisation and your clients, be that in person, 1:1 or in a group, by phone, email or Skype. About Our Therapeutic Model

Many clients as well as organisations we work with tell us that more traditional therapeutic models such as IAPT have failed to lead to improvements in wellbeing for their service users, and that most therapists do not have the experience, training or context in relation to the challenges faced by disabled people to develop effective coping or management strategies. Our goal is to help your organisation to overcome this barrier by providing effective and evidence based therapeutic support that is tailored to the needs of disabled people.

Spokz People are developing a therapeutic model that is specifically designed to support people with physical disabilities. We call this Purple Therapy. All of our staff and associates are hand selected for their knowledge and experience of working with people with disabilities and all have been through our bespoke training programme, which was developed by our Clinical Director, Mel, using her extensive background supporting people with disabilities across the UK. We have developed an evidence base for the effectiveness of our model and have recently published our findings in the Counselling and Psychotherapy Research Journal (CPR).

We would love to tell you more about our model and how it could help your service users. Please request a copy of our study, or if you would like to talk to us then please...

Testimonials

Here is what some of our partners have said about working with Spokz People:

In the years we have been working with Spokz People they have offered a flexible service, providing counselling at a number of venues. Our service users and carers have found the Spokz People counsellors have helped them to move forward with their lives, and their unique insights have helped our clients to identify valuable coping strategies.
— Nancy, Service Manager at Headway Birmingham
The communication was excellent and there was a great relationship during the period of time we were working together. Our members had both an opportunity to attend group and individual sessions. All of them fed back that they found both very useful and felt it helped them to deal with the psychological issues that stem from living with a chronic, incurable illness.
— Carol Bhalla, Group Coordinator, MS Society Birmingham
Communication was far better than most and reporting was good, detailed and provided a good plan. Funding was accurately tailored to the plan.
— Liz Haunch, Insurance Case Manager
