Mel has 11 years’ experience as a counsellor (Diploma awarded by the University of Leicester) and is licensed to practice face-to-face, telephone and online therapy (she has completed additional training in online and telephone work). Other qualifications include a BA in Communication, certificates in psychology and mediation and a postgraduate certificate in teaching adults. She is also qualified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), a NICE-approved therapeutic technique for trauma and pain.
Mel is a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP membership number 618792, register number 051291) and her and the team all adhere to their ethical framework.
Mel has extensive experience in the field of impairment and disability, both through her client work and personally.
Mel’s primary goal is to contribute to a fairer society by both improving access to psychological support for families living with impairment and by improving their wellbeing.
Spokz People works directly with clients, but Mel’s life work is also about continued research and transferring her knowledge and skills to other professionals so that a better service is delivered to those who are disabled.
