How I work - working with Sarah

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Nervous about starting sessions with me? Then this blog is for you! (Mel's blog is on here too, so read this one to find out more about her as well as our general way of working).

I have been working as a therapist within Spokz People for nearly 3 years now. So a little bit about me.

Professionally I have worked as a therapist for just over 6 years, and I have a BA in Counselling, am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I adhere to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.  I have completed additional disability training with Spokz People and am continually reading around the subject to make sure my knowledge is up to date.

Personally, I am married and I have 3 children.  Two of my children have receptive and expressive disorders and as a family we have to deal with the issues and difficulties this brings to their lives, as these difficulties can be both psychological and physical.

So, what can you expect when you meet me for the first time in our first session together?

Well, firstly this session will be an assessment session where I will ask you questions to try and get a picture of your life, your background and why you have come to us.  From here we can then look to see what it is you want from our time together.  Therapy is a collaborative endeavour and my aim is to always work with you and to support you, to form a warm and friendly therapeutic relationship where you feel able to talk in a confidential and safe environment.

However, therapy can be hard work.  Not just in our sessions together but in the time in between as well.  It is very much worth bearing in mind that we only spend 50 minutes a week together.  The time you put in, in between our sessions, count as well.  I know from my experience working as a therapist, that the more time you put in, the greater the rewards.

Can you ask me questions? YES! Do feel free to ask me any question, I may not be able to answer, but I will certainly try! I hope you enjoyed reading this blog and I hope it makes it easier for you to contact me.

Where am I?  I work mainly in Birmingham South, Selly Oak. Mel works in Lichfield/soon North Birmingham.

So there you have it.  That's a little bit about me, and I'm really looking forward to meeting you in the very near future.
